I'm looking at purchasing a Peacock for my 29 gallon all glass tank and have heard about them breaking the glass. Would it be alright to get one. He would be the only guy in there with a damsel every now and then for color until their eatin. Please tell me your thoughts, my lfs has a gorgeous looking one that needs a home and i'd like it to be mine.

Only the very largest O. scyllarus are likely to cause trouble. I would be concerned if the animal were over 15 cm total length. Even then, the risk is very small. The most likely damage would come if the animal started to try to dig a burrow in a corner and chipped the bottom edge of a pane.

thats what i wanted to hear. off to the lfs tomorrow it is. thanks for the reply. i'll post some pics of the guy once i get home.

i have my peacock in a 29 gallon glass
i put in plexi glass on the bottom of the tank and it deffinetly has been a saver of the tank
my mantis stills smacks the bottome of the tank on ocaision

my 20g mantis tank is also linned with plexi glass at the bottom. but i also built a burrow for him out of PVC pipe so i dont get much smacking of the tank any more, now he just smake the PVC pipe instead.
