Pectinia Coral

Hey guys, so I just bought this coral and its my first SPS coral (but I was recently told it is LPS, so a tad bit confused because my LFS said it is SPS) that I have anything to do with besides my pagoda which from my understanding is on the border of LPS and SPS. What do you guys think about this Pectinia, the store said it was very rare and a nice piece. They just got it from an Australian shipment. I know I read somewhere about mixing the SPS and softies but not sure why exactly. I'm super excited about this piece, any tips and also how much it is worth would be very helpful. I payed $100 but I was in love with it at the store. Nice bright green! Also what is the specific color name for this I have seen ultra, lime dazzle, and tricolored pectinia.

Pectinia are usually considered LPS although lps and sps are not scientific terms. Pectinia seem to be a popular coral right now and vendors like to assign names to corals to sell them for more. Sometimes the names stick sometimes they don't so I would not call it any of those names since they have already been taken just make up your own fun name for it.

Nice coral I think $100 was a fair price

I've had one now for about 5 months. I've gotten great growth with it sitting Up high on a rock. Watch for sweeper tenicals...I was shocked to see them the first time it did it. Over 3" sweepers

Thanks! Can you post a pic maroonman, also how often do you feed it and what do you feed it? I feed 1 time a week (every Saturday) and I do marine snow, oyster feast, and frozen brine shrimp.

Great looking one. I've got one exactly like it but one side is starting to turn white on the edges. I read they like low flow and low light. I think I had it too high. I've got it on my sand bed now.

This pic was taken 30 minutes after I got it in my tank. The LFS said that they loose color easy over shipping so mine should get bigger and the color will go back better over time due to it acclimating. The points on this one are whitish, more tan than anything really. I noticed that one point(very small) at the bottom seemed to be broke and dangling, but the flesh is attached and the color its suppose to be so I assume that its okay, I think it could be just the flesh. not sure, does anyone know what I mean?

this looks like a maricultured piece, it will have a tough time adjusting to our captive system with such high power lights, maybe give it a little shade or lower your light power?

I could possibly move my lights back on my tank. There's not really an over hang for it. I have T5's. What do you suggest and for how long?

So I have seen and the store told me that they loose color from shipping. I notice the tips are whitish but it is looking a tad better in my opinion and darker looking today. Can this get worse? And what can I do to make it better and what drastic measure should I do if it does get worse. This may be normal for a coral right after shipping (as I was told) but i'm not too sure. Did anyone who has one have this issue the first week that they had theirs?

Pectinia Coral

Pectinias are very popular right now... Lots of nice colored ones... I love the growth pattern on pectinias... Very random growth depending on the amount of flow... Definitely watch out for sweepers... Had my share of corals getting stung from my pectinias... Love mine!

Greta corals, I took this one in as a rescue from the LFS about four months ago. It was almost bare of flesh. High light and medium flow seems to be the trick for this one.

I moved my lights to the back a little so the light isn't straight on it super bright. Later I will move it to the place it should be but I'm going to let it slowly acclimate.

I'm told pectinia likes low light. did you move yours to a place with high light slowly or did you just place it there when you first got it?
