Peninsula 270 Gallons DT

Well folks its time for me to be the one who will write and post something here in RC. I've been snooping around for 4 years already and have no guts to post my own aquarium. RC is a great place for hobbyist like us to unwind our mind from work or family. I've learned a lot from this site and now i'll try to contribute something in return. Started with 75 gallons tank 4 years ago (still running), build a nano 40 gallons tank for my wife 3 years ago (still running) and build a 180 peninsula style in-wall tank for my parents 1 year ago (still running).

I have a chance to build a new tank in our new house. It will be 270 gallons DT peninsula style in-wall glass tank. This new tank will house all my livestock from my old 75 gallons tank. This new tank will be a sps dominated tank and some LPS. It will house some angels and i hope that they will behave nicely... :)

As for the equipment, I may not inform you guys that i live in the other side of the pacific. I'm from Philippines and most of the reefers challenges here in Philippines are quality equipments. Thanks to our local reefers/enthusiast (Peter) they resorted it out by shipping directly from china some quality products like Octopus skimmers, etc... Thanks also to the "internet" i was able to order some stuff directly from the US (Premium Aquatics - thanks again Jeremy for great service).

Below are some equipments that i have or ordered:

TANK/STAND:

All glass aquarium for DT
(72"L x 36"W x 26"H)
All glass aquarium for Sump
(60"L x 36"W x 18"H)
Steel Stand Frame (C-channel grade 60 is used)
3/4" Marine plywood is used to cover all the tank in both sides. Will be using veneer to finish off the plywood.

LIGHTING:

3 x Lumenbright
3 x Octopus 250 Watts MH bulbs with Philips ballast
4 x 39 watts T5s
3 x 24 watts T5s

CIRCULATION:

2 x Eheim 1264 or 1 x Octopus Blaster HY-7000 for returns
1 x Tunze 6205
1 x Tunze 6105
2 x Tunze 6055
1 x Tunze 7096 Multi Controller
plan to add 2 vortex mp40 in the near future

FILTRATION:

Reef Octopus Cone Skimmer XP-5000
Reef Octopus Activated Carbon Reactor
Vertex Neozeo 3 Liter Reactor
Various Brightwell products
40 gallon in sump Live rocks section
Shallow sand bed
Will be using Sch80 Pipes and bulkheads

COOLING:

1.5 HP Condenser unit attach to a DIP Titanium Coil

CALCIUM / ALK:

Bubble-Magus Dosing Pump

MONITORING:

DA Reef Keeper Lite Level 3

AQUASCAPING:

One of the greatest challenge of this tank is the aquascaping because its peninsula style. But the 36" depth will help a lot in minimizing this challenge. I will try my best or maybe you guys can provide some ideas how to do the rockscape to give more open look and open space for my future fishes. I love montipora capricornis an plan to house some of it... and due to its structure when it grows big, it will create crevices and caves like structure for fishes to hide but it will give a lot of shadows for sure...

Enough with the talking... lets move to the exciting part... pictures... here we go....

its a long overdue update of my tank! Been very busy lately. But thanks to my ever supporting wife, she asked me to finish the tank already.

First update is the completion of all items needed for the tank:

And with the help of Vin, we were able to integrate the plumbing of the tank! We started 6pm and finished 3am this morning! It was a tiring job but all is well and we have finished everything! Thanks again Vin!

Thanks for viewing... Next ordeal electricals!

question on the DIY sump. Have you ever made your own tank before this one and did you find it difficult? I put my own glass dividers in a 100 gallon glass tank I bought for my last sump but I am in the need of a sump for my current build. I would consider building my own from scratch and thought maybe you could shed some light on your experience?

Thanks Kache...

@muffinman - sorry, but im not the one who fabricate my sump tank... i asked another person to do it for me... i think there will be no problem in fabricating your own sump tank. and i think glass sump tank are great... this build is my 4th tank... and all of them have glass sump tank. my believe in sump tank is that try as much as possible to use in-sump equipments to deter any future problems... hope that helps...

Been very busy for the past few months and forgot about this thread.. Its better than late than never... Will post some new shots of the tank.. im using my old slr and a macro lens. so hard to get decent shots. pls excuse my noob shots...
