Penn State Tank

I read a while back that they use ushio 10k 400 watters over the tank without actintic suppliments. I'm trying to figure out w/ my configuration (2x 70 watt over a 10g tank) If i'd need to suppliment actintic with certain 10ks. Right now i'm using a 20k bulb but i think it should be alot brighter for growth.
So my questions are:
What bulbs and K temp are currently being run over the tank and is there any actintic supplimentation?

Right now, the tank is running 400W 10000K XM lamps without any actinic supplements.

Guess that doesn't help me out much since 70 watt bulbs are limited by manufacturer. How was the color comparion between the ushio and the xm's? Which are crisper or more yellowish?

ushios are definitely yellower. for 70 watts i'd say go with aqualine bushke 10k if that's the look you're after.

I was actually trying to go 10k's for the growth without having to suppliment actintics. I do have an old aqualine 10k 70 watt. I'll have to hook it up w/ my new e-ballasts and see how it burns. Under the magnetic, it burns a little too yellow for me. I just want something that burns a crisp white w/ preferably a hint of blue.
Perhaps I'll try the ushio 14k's and hope they are almost as bright as the 10k's.
