Hi guys. I have been using a point and shoot camera for quite awhile, and I have decided that I think I would like to jump into the dslr game. Having said that, at this point all I am really interested in taking pics of is the tank and family shots, etc. I currently have a Kodak Z990, and while it does take reasonably good pictures, I cannot get the types of macro shots I would like etc.

I have recently been looking into purchasing a pentax k-r, and I would like to get opinions from people that are more experienced than me before I purchase it. In addition, if there are other cameras that I should be looking at in this price range, let me know. I would like to spend in the 6-700 range, but I know one thing I would like is live view, as that i what I am used to .

In addition, I understand that I will need a macro lens in order to take the type of pictures I am interested in, and I have been looking at one of the pentax 100mm macro lenses.

TIA!

I am a Pentax man going back to the K100 & Spotmatic days. I like their 100 macro, a very nice lense IMO. I currently use a Pentax K5, I believe the first pic @ - http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2031850 , was taken with the Pentax 100 macro. If you want to see some other pentax shots check out some of my pics at http://www.aquariumpros.ca/photopost/index.php

IMO Pentax make excellent optics and are reasonably priced. In terms of quality of optics, Zeis & Leica are to die for but out of my price range :-)

good luck

Thanks for the reply! My K-r is actually arriving today. I am at work, calling my wife to see if it has arrived yet:spin1:
