People using your Mag-Float

It happens a lot for me. Now i have 3 giant scrapes in my glass tht have algae growing in them. I just don't let those people near my tank anymore.

I have a 2 year old and when we visited a friend in Germany, he saw this thing on his tank. Guess what - he tried it out....

I for obvious reasons leave them outside the tank on the top shelf!

My kids used to try to help. After pointing out that their help was not so helpful (through a stern discussion) they stopped. Now I move the Mag Float to the back glass behind the rock work. It's out of view and out of mind.

I taught my friends not to get it too close to the sand, not to try to smush fish between the magnets, and not going too fast with it. Whenever I have company over I get my tank cleaned for me, free of charge. I have no complaints :D .

I'm with ACBlinky, never had a problem. My friends and family all know how much the tank means to me and what I would do if they screwed something up! I even have a 2 year old <------ and never had a problem. Trick is, if your going to have kids, build your own stand and make it about 30" tall +. Works like a charm!

When I first started just seven months ago and I'd see a mag float in a tank I'd think "man is that ugly and this guy sure is lazy for not taking it out". Ha! I now have four tanks and the mag floats stay in the tanks all the time. I inspect each tank with a magnifying glass several times a day, count all the polyps to see if I have any new ones, and run the mag float over any spot I see.

Now it's only when I see a mag float in the tank and the glass is dirty that I think someone has gotten lazy.

My stupid friend always messes with mine and he knows it makes me mad. I usually just tell him to grow up and act his age, next time he does it I might try the palytoxin. LOL

I had to buy a new tank, you would not believe this, I came home from a week vacation and told them not to clean ANYTHING, well they took out the magfloat, stirred up all the sand, then got sand particles stuck all throughout the magnets, scratched the tank so bad that I just could not handle it anymore and had to transfer,it did give me a chance to get a bigger tank though, it worked out!

Alright, that one went a little too far

:D Spend hundreds(even thousands) of $$ on your tank just to have some kid scratch the crap outta it? That's just me though.

I just hide mine in the back of the tank at the bottom where its less noticable. Weird that everyones seems to have the same mag float issue lol.

Whenever my friends come over to see my tank they always ask "can i try the algae thing" the first time I expected them to be competent enough to use a Mag-Float. WOW! That was a mistake, they are always moving it faster than is intended, causing me to cringe when it comes off the glass and slams back on and than the wrasse hides and the tang starts attacking the Mag-Float. It makes me sick. I especially shouldn't have let my incompetent Colt Coral killing tank-sitter clean the glass. That coral was so healthy when I left. When I got home, my feeding clip was broken, my Mag-Float was floating and the outside half had beem put on my ballast, parts of my sump were missing, there was skimmate dripping on my power strip from my overflowing skimmate jug, the fish were hiding, the sump was almost dry and the return pump was blowing bubbles out of my return lines. I had a hair algae bloom! The electrical connection for my UV was in saltwater and the casing corroding! The tank was in the worst condition since the Hair Algae Plague of 06! Captain Stuben was forced to accept flake food! I think that a warning of incompetent people should be placed on Mag-Float packaging!
