Peppermint destroyed my frogspawn

Well, after 2 weeks on my reef, my frogspawn is gone!

Ive recently noticed the frogspawn refusing to extend itself and last night I figured out why. My peppermint has been eating it. Has anyone else experienced this?

My son loves the peppermint so I cant get rid of it.

Any recommendations on this situation? Should I keep the frogspawn and see if it will regrow?

Trying feeding it separately. If he is going after corals its because he cant find food else where. I had a pep that starting eating my riceodea mushroom. He is no longer with me!!!

+1 on making sure your peppermint shrimp is fed. I had one for a year, and it never touched any of my corals. I'm not sure what happened to it... It might be dead, it might be alive... I just haven't seen it in weeks. I have frogspawn, ricordea, acans, mushrooms, duncans, zoas.... The only time I've ever had to do anything, is when it kept stealing food from my chalice.

feeding it isnt going to matter much. eventually its going to eat some coral.
i had one eat an entire acan colony and not break it open for food just eating piece by piece

I've said it over and over and people still don't listen. There are many things in our reefs that are absolutely 'reef safe with caution'. Many fish, crabs, and shrimp fall into this category. Emerald crabs, most tangs, rabbit fish, blue leg crabs, the list goes on and on.

True peppermint shrimp are knowing for eating small fleshy aptasia. Is it really a surprise they would find fleshy corals tasty too? ;)

Again, reef safe... with caution.

I had this happen with a cleaner shrimp and an RBTA... nearly killed it. When I see posts like this I always add it, because when I searched compatibility I couldn't find any problem posts.

yep my peppermint decided that my beautiful pink hammer would be dinner no matter how much I fed him! Luckily I caught it when I saw just some of the polyps gone as I inspect my tank meticulously every day. Both my peppermints are in the sump and that is where they will stay! Those shrimp will eat until they explode I swear! no matter how much you feed them they will eat and eat! :mad2:

This was happening to my frogspawn! I sold the shrimp and told one of the employees at my lfs and he looked at as if I was lying!

melanurus wrasse... but of course if only you don't value your CUC because if he'll eat shrimp, he'll eat your hermits and snails too probably.

My melanurus and my lepord wrasse don't bother any of my shrimp, hermits, or snails. I guess they are to busy eatting bristle worms.

i need to get a wrasse to hunt my peppermint.
any advice on what wrasse?

No you don't. Don't start another problem to fix one issue.

Shrimp are very easy to catch. Lookup the 20oz bottle trick. Basically cut off the hard neck of a bottle, invert it, throw a small amount of rubble and tasty food in the bottom, tie a piece of fishing line around it, and sink it in the tank. In a matter of an hour or two (just checking every 5-10 minutes), I caught I think it was 8 of my 10 peppermint when I broke down my 200. That was neither a small tank, nor were they starved to death.

My shrimp(s?) will climb up on my hand every time i put it in the tank and start cleaning me! But, then again, they are always out and scurrying around so i usually don't have a problem finding them.
