Peppermint Shrimp

It seems that even though I did all my research before buying my peppermint shrimp, Ive been blind sided. Today, I went and got a GREAT deal from a LFS that is unfortunately going out of business and brought home a goby, a feather duster and a serpent star......after I got them acclimated, I put them all in the tank, and immediately the peppermint shrimp started picking at them! He even went after my hand when I put it in the tank! Is this normal? I read that they are reef safe and friendly, but he doesnt look reef safe and friendly?

Right on....that makes me feel better. I was starting to get mad when he was "picking" on the black feather duster, because it is so tiny and Ive never seen a black one before.......Dont know why, but its my favorite.....

Consider yourself lucky - most PS are nocturnal and the ones I've had are hit or miss with aiptasia.

My pepps come running anytime something new is in the tank. They immediately clean up new frag rocks. They haven't been destructive at all.

Mine took the head off both of my feather dusters within a few days... at night, i would see it stalking the dusters... hope their heads grow back... If he still is acting in a "poor" manner, i am going to make me a small shrimp coctail. Bunker

I found mine digging in my hammer coral and steling food from it, and it took a week in my quarentine tank before the hammer would open back up again.

Do coral banded shrimp have this problem as well?

Not to hitchhike this tread, but I was thinking about getting a peppermint shrimp as well. I found one aptasia and was going to get a peppermint shrimp to work on that problem. However, I have like 6 tiny featherduster live rock hitchhikers and I am now wondering whether they will be safe with the new shrimp. I know they may/may not eat the aptasia, but I would rather keep the featherdusters and do the injection thing with the aptasia.

What would others recommend?

My peppermint shrimp doesn't eat the feather dusters. The other day I saw two aptaisia that I injected. I couldn't wait for the shrimp to find them. LOL Good luck.

mine never touches my feather dusters, and is out all day long
