peppermints breeding

We bought two peppermint shrimps a while back and one had a sac of eggs on it's back (does that sound right?). Anyways, one shrimp disappeared and the one with the eggs is still around. We found little beings which looked to be baby shrimps. Is that possible? The guy at the pet store didn't think that they would actually hatch and make it, but it seems like they have. We got them from the filter (I think) and put them in our spare tank with only some live rock. They still seem to be growing, when I can glimpse them. Now quite sure what they are, but I think they're little shrimps, my husband isn't quite so sure. We're watching them.

Thanks!

They are. Congrats! Raising them is a pain though, but they're one of the easier Lysmata to breed and raise. My skunk cleaners do it all of the time. If you are interested check out "Raising and Training Your Peppermint Shrimp" By April Kirkendoll

Dragonnet_Dude. where do we find a link to "Raising and Training Your Peppermint Shrimp" By April Kirkendoll? any chance you can post the link for us?

Dragonet_Dude,

Thanks for the name of the book. I found it at Amazon.com for 9.56. Search ISBN 0-9667784-2-1. I was also unaware of the vast amount of books out there that got great ratings. I'm picking one up on corals as well.

KPScuba, there is also a change that you are seeing mysid (sp) shrimp, I have a ton of them in my sump. They look very much like little baby shrimp. They stay small and are harmless to your tank, in fact they are a nice natural food source.

No, it doesn't. Shrimp carry their eggs on the underside of the abdomen, not on the back.. Or did you mean the back part of the body?
