I have heard/read from different sources that the two are different species or that they should be considered seperate. Anyone care to shed some light on the subject, possibly confuse me more:confused: Also if there is a difference, how can you tell, and what are the easiest speces of anemone to get to host a pair in? Thanx for the help

yea two kinds of clownfish
there are many kinds of clown fishes
each kind of clown will like a different kind of anemone but there are no hard rules some clowns wont host and some will host anything
also there are many variations to each species of clown making it even more confusing

Yes, perculas and ocellaris are different fish. They can be tricky to tell apart. There are almost 30 different types of clownfish and many species have several color variations so there is a great deal of variety in these types of fish.

here is a link to a great website I found that not only shows you the different species but also their color variations. Enjoy!

Thanx for the comments and help. That website helped a lot James, mine are still a little too young for me to be sure though

I saw it suggested in a 2003 publication of "Complete Encyclopedia of Saltwater Aquariums" that Perc and Ocellaris were the same species, but different color variants...but I suspect that in the past 3 years that's been reasonably disproved.
