Perfect Dwarf Angel for Softie Reef?

Which Dwarf Angel is my best bet with a reef with soft coral, mushrooms, polyps, and maybe a few lps if my 192 watts will allow it?

If it's a 70 gallon, I think a pygmy (which I still have) or flame are both great choices. I've had both, and in a reasonable size tank, with feedings, they're both fine.

None of them are perfect, but some are better than others. Flame is my favorite and I have not had any issues with. Just know that any of them can decide to eat coral at any time - regardless of how long you have had them.

watch out for the pygmy...line LOVED my GSPs till they were no more! also tried my xenia too!!

I bet there are several people here on RC that would pay good money to borrow a GSP and/or Xenia eating centropyge!:D

I have an Eibl's Angel and he sometimes nips at Button Polyps but doesn't bother the mushroom or GSPolyps.

my coral beauty good for about a year so far. I did see her nip at the brain once, but that was the only time.

Even the book "Marine fishes" says Coral Beauty can nip at softies and some LPS. While it says about the more non safe fish "will EAT certain corals". . So I think you are generally safer with a Coral Beauty than say a . . Foxface Lo. No guarantee's though. I know that at anytime my beauty can turn into a coral eating machine. I just try to keep her well fed.

Thanks for all of the posts. I'm between the Coral Beauty and the Flame. Anymore experiences with Flames and the softie reef?

I have had a Flame angel in my reef for over a year with no problems, I have many different types of mushrooms, green star polyps, xenia, kenya tree, lots of zoo's, and 5 clams. He sometimes takes a swim-by nipping on my montipora digitata but that about it, this is the experience I have had with my Flame, but the one you pick up might be that one that one that see's your tank as a buffet. So just be careful and watch him carefully when you introduce him if your willing to take the chance.

I've heard of success with the cherub angel, flame, and coral beauty. You'll need to decide if you can get it out if it becomes a nuisance, and if adding this fish is really worth the trouble.

I have a flame in my reef and she hasnt picked at anything but im pretty sure she has ich. I QTed her for a week but i guess that wasnt enough. Good luck

Really? Coral Beauties are the worst?

Nah, fish like the bicolor or lemon peel have a far worse reputation.

I've been told Coral Beauties are more of a risk than pygmy or flames, but I've seen them in many reef tanks.
