wow... looks like someone from pet mart is using my account. fun stuff. It sucks that I forgot to log out of that computer in that bloody office. Karmaz, still got that focus? Mislabling bags... you could call it that. 10 for 9.99 is very similar to 10 x .99, off by 9 cents. Hope yall needed the money

RC can look up IP address of posts, if someone uses your account, sounds a little unethical.... Don't worry, RC staff is great at checking into things like that and will come save the day as they do in all the other pet mart topics.
Just makes me wonder what a store like that could do with credit card numbers if in fact they are hacking accounts and posting under some one else's screen name.

To me this forum's purpose is for the tampa bay area to speak their mind about the saltwater hobby and honestly i dont see anything wrong with people posting their bad situations of petmart. It may be true that someone posts about petmart every month or so, but more power to ya. Best thing about America is freedom of speech right? if you hate these topics dont click on them or dont post on them. the newer members will see the new threads and learn from our mistakes rather then walking into that store and finding out themselves. This is just my opinion of course and im not bashing anyone.
As far as Petmart using Hotreefer's account, i think that calls for some investigation on RC's part. That's extremely unethical to me and i think they should also look at Karmaz IP address and if they are the same, ban him. If you look at the time posted, Karmaz and Hotreefers post are 2 minutes apart. I believe thats enough time to log in and out of two accounts. Regardless, we all know that the only person who ever really backs petmart up are their own employees.

It doesn't matter how good your holding tanks/systems are if your maintenance and stocking practices are not good.
I would be skepticle if a new Manager at Pet Mart would make any difference. They have had a variety of new managers over the years. Their problem is their owners, which have not ever changed.

Freedom of speech is great thing but, let's be honest, this is not about somebody posting their bad experience. This is about an ex-employee who was most likely fired and is hoping to do some damage. Freedom of speech cuts both ways, I shop at Pet Mart regularly, I find they have an excellent selection of different things, good hours, and friendly employees. And yes....I've purchased livestock that is healthy from the Tampa store,lol. I think people should walk in and judge for themselves because we need to all agree to disagree regarding PetMart. They've been doing a brisk business for quite a while so apparently a few people are voting with their dollars which is what we all should do.
I agree if somebody used Hotreefer's account that is bullcrap and they should be banned and the posts deleted. I think alot of people are afraid to say they shop there for fear of getting bashed, lol. Me, I never have cared what other people think, I do my own thing. No I don't work there but didn't you used to?

Some people may "walk in and judge for themselves". Many people, including myself, want to hear of others experiences so as to avoid a bad experience themselves whether it is a product review or a store review. That is the good thing about this forum, you can take or leave other peoples reviews. No one is obligated to follow a commenters reviews and recommendations. Whether a person "should walk in and judge for themselves" is their own choice.
I will say that the pattern I have seen is that newbies tend to favor Pet Mart for their over-stocked tanks and "seemingly" low prices. It also seems that experienced hobbyists tend to recognize the better stores.

This is way I said what I did. First do a "Search". I you can't search pay same money to help fund the site and you then can search more often. I am glad that these threads keep popping up. It wouldn't be a true forum if they didn't. We should all help educate fellow hobbyists on experiences with the LFS in the area. They can take the info they get from this site and personal experience to help them form their own opinion.
Not everyone should or will come to the same conclusion because as consumers we all have different things that we consider when choosing places to buy our goods. Customer service, price, product availabilty, store appearance, etc. are all considered and prioritized based on preference. Some people put price above everything else and others put customer service. It all works out in the end because LFS generally create their own niches and attract customers geared toward their niche.
I for one look at the ethical end of the hobby when choosing where I get my livestock from. If a store regularly stocks fish and corals that have poor records or no chance of surviving in captivity (like Ribbon eels, orange spotted filefish, morish idols) and tell people they are easy to care for and just feed them mysis then I am not going to shop there. In this hobby, cost is always a concern but I would also prefer to just spend an extra few dollars on livestock knowing that the fish have been handled properly from collection to me.
Just my 2 cents.

Yes - Gimplar I apologize also we are to good of a club for something like this. I do agree with the freedom of speech but I could make this a regular habit and in reality it's just advertisement for my store. We go through this every month it seems and now we really do need to think about it being just a way to advertise. This is just my thoughts and please Gimplar - I do apologize.

it's ok reefartist, not your fault, i would of been ****ed off too, but i completely quoted the wrong guy on accident lol. But the simple fact is that i used to work for petmart about a year and a half ago and i really know how things operate in there. and i just want everyone to know the truth.

Thank you Triggerfish1976, I also think this is the number one issue in our hobby. If we continue giving money to the stores that carry livestock with poor records or do not know how to care for their livestock we will not have a hobby - at least at the level we have now. Think prices are high - just wait until other reef areas are shutdown to the trade. JMO please!

I'm more than willing to pay a bit more and drive past 3 lower quality stores to support business that offer healthy livestock and try to educate hobbyists about the animals in their care. I don't view my livestock as 'disposable' items that I can easily replace if they get sick or I get tired of having them. A 'sale' item doesn't appeal to me on price alone. I'd rather pay $30 for a healthy fish that will live than replace a $10 fish of the same type 3 times.
