Pet World 4 Sale

Hmm, that is interesting. I think we should all pool together, and have our own club store! Yes? No? Ok maybe not, but I have always wanted to run my own live fish store.

I don't understand - maybe you grown adults can explain it to me.

"business only" does this mean you purchase the name and all the internals, but not the building? If this is the case I assume the place in the strip mall is a lease?

I know nothing about real estate.

That's what it sounds like to me. I know they don't own the building or anything like that. It does say something about re-negotiating the lease or moving the business.

Well, I'm getting laid off on the 9th of november, I should take my severence and a loan - and pick it up!!!

(I don't think the wife wants to move to Omaha, but what a dream!)

I don't know a whole lot about business, but from when I was in there last week, I don't think its worth that much, at least without the building.

I kind of agree. I don't want to say anything bad about one of our lfs but I don't think the equipment and current inventory is worth that much. As for me buying it, I would love to own a lfs, but right now I wouldn't want the risk involved in starting a new business (especially with out the fall back of owning the building) and with a limited experience in retail. It's a nice dream though.:D

Most of the people I have talked to tell me that LFS are not that profitable and without any first hand experience in retail it would be wise to invest elsewhere. Hats off to anyone that is doing it now or any of you that want to give it a try, heck I will buy the first fish you get in:).

If you go with a strict LFS, then yes making a profit is very tough around here, but if you have a good exotics store. You could make it. The number one thing is feeders. I've talked one exotics store owner who make rent solely on feeders for reptiles. Right now from what I've seen Aquapets and Lizard King are head and shoulders above everyone total package for saltwater. Petland has good stock but their prices are insane. Petworld seems to have good potential if the right person gets in there. I've been to Paradise Cove once, and I didn't look enough to make a fair judgment. I have heard some rumblings though that Paradise Cove may close and be open up somewhere else. Also there maybe another Petland coming in Omaha or Lincoln. Here in Lincoln though we're kind of doomed, The Fish Store is stuck in their ways it seems and doesn't adjust very well. Jungle Exotics has great potential but right now potential is all it is. I think one place in the general area could make a move to grab the entire market, but no one seems ready to try yet.

You guys come up with 250 k and I will sell you the lizard king, property, set ups, and THE BUILDING....LOL

Man running a pet shop is for the birds I think some days. Id love to work a 9-5 with a paycheck and benifits. Not to mention the days off, O the days off. Maybe someday I can be Predsident of the good ol USA, and get 100 plus days a year off like Ol Bush gets.

Instead Im president of the Lizard King instead, and all I get are holidays off (well off if you dont count coming in and working that is).

Seriously, please someone pool money together and buy me out...LMAO

(sorry to thread crash)

Mickey

Here is even funnier

I shouldnt have responded at all, as I jynxed myself.

I get a phone call today from my landlords, husbands, real estate agent. Well he is my wifes ex-boss' father , and he helped us get the building to start with.

He calls today and says the old lease is going to stand, even though the wifes name is not on it. As such the deal she offered me on the building is not going to be good any longer, and long story short I need to pay an additional 25 grand for the building.

So needless to say I can no longer offer the business with the building if I wanted, as now Im in a fight with the landlord and will not be buying it anytime soon.

Guess last weeks fire sale was for nothing, gotta love running a business.

I second the "it sucks running a business" at least this week. I have crews in Omaha and Mississippi and both are sitting on there a!@$% because its raining both places. And to top it off one of my guys busted his finger in Mississippi....oh well. Here is golden opportunity for you Mickey Lizard King part Deaux, now serving the millard area. Although I haven't benn able to figure out how you can be at two places at once:)

Yea being at one place at a time is hard enough for me anymore.

I tell you what, with this situation with the landlord, I am now looking around at other locations. I never thought I would ever want to move again, but something tells me this could be an chance to make sure Benson is really where I belong.

Im going to start looking at other properties for lease or sale and see just what my dollar would get me right now. Who knows, I could end up running two places for a few months untill the old lease expires (or I do, guess we could start the pool now).

I should have known better untill I had it in writing, but I guess thats life.

Good news is I should be pullling in some larger orders sooner then later due to this. Im thinking a quick Cali trip may be in order. Im kicking around trying to fly stand by on Monday, so who knows. Keep your eyes peeled.
