Petco Carpets

So I needed some cat food so went to Petco this afternoon. While I normally don't pay too much attention to the livestock there, they had two carpets that looked pretty OK. I'm moving my tank's direction from SPS to softies and anemones.

I'm trying to get a feel for what looks good and what looks bad given the sketchy survival rates of some 'nems from transport.

Any thoughts and details on the two below would be appreciated.

They both have good color and shape. You will want to check that their mouths are closed, and when they are removed, that the foot is not torn at all. But they look pretty good from what I can see. Just be careful about moving them too soon. If they just came in, they can get sick during shipping/redistributing and not show it for a couple weeks.

interesting. i went to petco last night and there were 2 huge carpets there as well. the only difference is that the ones where i was were bleached and unhealthy. besides, i a bta man myself

Oh boy....I bought a carpet at Petco once. Had it in my 29 bow front that had been established for a couple of years and doing well. The carpet swelled up and retracted after a few days. I thought it was just doing its normal thing and left it alone. Few days later, I went in to pick it up because I thought it might be dead.

Yea it was, came apart in my hands. The most god awful smell you could imagine. Killed everything in my tank too.

Don't do it!!

Lots to think about. And in doing a little more research, I'm seeing that they do not seem to do well in tanks with BTA and I have 3 of those. Thinking I may pass though I feel bad as no one else will likely buy them.

They get these from Sunpet (local distributor). It will only be healthy for about a week, after that the longer it stays in their system the whiter it will get. Which Petco was that? The one in Buford get's some nicer stuff in from time to time.

This was the Petco in Edgewood on Caroline Street.

Must be a run of 'em, spotted this healthy one at a local petco, $25, a steal compared to DD and the LFS's.<a href="http://s178.photobucket.com/albums/w261/mp9_/Mobile%20Uploads/?action=view&current=0326121448.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w261/mp9_/Mobile%20Uploads/0326121448.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I purchased one just like it, dinner plate size, they had it for $25 but I had two $5.00 off coupons and a 20% coupon. So for like 12$, it was a deal. It was tan in the crappy lighting but at home under MH and PC bulbs, it is andies mint green, and I suspect it is a Haddon.

I bought this carpet at petco for 20.00 because it had been there a couple weeks. but this is a pic the next day.
