I would never buy any fish from petco cause they are morons.Well I know the one by my house is.I call yesterday to see if they had any aiptasia control and the guy was talking to me like it was something that fish get. Then I stop by to see what fish they have which if I am at wal mart I go over just to see what they have. They had this hippo tang who had ich real bad he had white spots all over him the fish had scratch his face off.He couldnt even swim cause he was to busy rubbing up aganist a rock. Then petco had the nerve to try to sell the fish for $32.I myself wouldn't take that fish if it was free.I have to make a 45 min there then 45 back drive just to go to a decent fish store.

A lot of the 'chain' stores are horrible. I know someone who is the aquatics division manager at a pet chain that will remain nameless. But they basically do a 300% water change a day. The water isn't filtered it's just constantly running through the system down a drain. It's horrible, not just with fish but reptiles and small animals too.

Another thing to my knowledge you are not suppose to net a fish.I have never netted any of mine when I moved them from my QT to DT.Every time I go in petco they net their fish.I'm like *** are you doing.I have went in there on a monday and see a dead fish go back thursday and that same fish is still in the tank. Now I take that back petco is a good store the ppl that they have hired at the one by my house sucks

Would say the same about many LFS but not when it comes to fish but anemones. I always see a lot of dead ones in the tank or halfway dead. Some should just stop treating this as a job and just treat it as a hobby and then I think the tank life forms would be in better health.
But I think they would think a salt tank owner would be over qualified for them to hire.
This happened to me once lil over 20 years ago I used to make tools for craftsman and then moved to the east coast and sears would not hire me for the tool dept.....

I dont either.I dont even consider them for salt water anything beside food.I dont even buy salt from them.I bought a bag of salt from them it was $23 drsfostersmith sells that same bag for $10

It sounds like your talking about my store right across from Wally World. I sometimes think I'm gonna hurl when I see the conditions those critters have to live in. No training for personel and a min wage job w/ people who really don't care. I also drve 1hr both ways.

Well I figure I will throw in a good note for ole' Petco.

I first went to Petco because I thought it was the only place within a few hours of me that had Saltwater. There stuff amazed me, I seriously caught the salwater "bug" there (there stuff amazed me, but it was because I did not know what condition it was supposed to be in) nonetheless, I started talking to an employee about the hobby.

That employee was more than helpful and he was obviously in love with the hobby just like us. Matter of fact I have his cell number and I call him to this day to help me make decisons on certain things with my tanks. He recommended me to two other LFS's and recommended that I not start at Petco. He actually gave me the contact of whom to buy my first tank from.

Bottomline though is yes the conditions suck in their displays, but I have them to thank for my love in the hobby. And they have at least hired one helpful employee
