Pets Aquatic in Nassau County

I just visited Pets Aquatic on Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park yesterday. It was my first trip to the store....a bit of a hike for me since I live in Pt. Jeff Station but I went there to pick up Reef Crystals Salt...200 gal box for $34.99 per box. The store had a sale...which I missed...but the owner Alan was good enough to extend the sale for me...I picked up 3 boxes. The price seemed lower then past group buy purchases....
Anyway...the store is deceptive in that it is bigger then you would expect when you first walk in. There is a huge area in the rear of the store which houses numerous tanks....I was told that they have approx. 18,000 gals of salt water tanks. Anyway, the place looks very clean and organized, the fish looked healthy and they had a lot of coral as well. I thought the prices of the coral was a bit high (in my opinion) but they were also starting a sale for today and tomorrow....25% off coral and 20% off fish. The owner gave me the 20% off (a day early) on a pink margin super male wrasse that I picked up for around $40 (after discount). They had a beautiful flame wrasse but I couldn't pull the trigger on that one. Anyway....regardless of the great price on the salt.....I thought this store was well worth the trip...just my opinion.

One of my go to shops if I need anything. If I'm making the rounds at the lfs's I'll start with Pets Aquatic then go to Pet Warehouse in Carle Place and from there Aquarium Village in Westbury. They are about 20 min. from each other, great shops, and all on the way home from work.

When I used to use reef chrystals I paid that price all the time at Aquarium Village and Rich the owner supports our club LIRA always making donations of products and gift certificates that are raffled off to raise money at our meetings for our club so that we can bring in speakers. I dont recall Pet Aquatics ever doing that.Thats one reason even the salt it was $5.00 more I would go to Aquarium Village. And I would plug his store on this site and not his compitors. But thats me!

I don't think that's the price at Aqua Hut........I only purchased ESV salt at AV. I think the regular price that I've been seeing for Reef Crystals was anywhere from $45 to $55.....so I thought $35 was a good deal.

Hi Reefers

We are going to have amazing Salt Specials for all members:

Instant Ocean 200 gallon Purple Box- $33.99 3/$100
Reef Crystals 200 gallon Orange Box- $$41.99 3/$120

Just saying I try to buy off vendors who support our club.I dont plug vendors who dont.To each his own youe different.

+1 on supporting Aquarium Village. I like the store, the staff, and especially so because they support LIRA. I've taken advantage of their Reef Crystal sale at 3 box for $120 at least twice already.

I don't know how Pets Aquatics is selling RC for $35...even at 1 or 2 pallet of salt, it still would cost more to buy...so I guess maybe selling at a loss.
I have went to the store a few times when Nelson was there and picked up a few things. I especially like their Nutrasea water prices, 2 for $22, cheapest I've ever see it sold without having to buy several boxes.

Just to clarify......I have no association with Pets Aquatic.....there was no intent whatsoever to PLUG the store. All I wanted to do was give LIRA club members a heads up on a good price on salt and give my thoughts on the store.

You know....there doesn't always have to be an agenda!!!!! It could be as simple as letting others know about a good deal.
