Petsmart

Hey everyone.. I was at Petsmart off of Poplar right next to Buffalo Wild Wings and they have tanks on sale for $1/gallon for most of the tanks. They have a 55 for $79.. Anyhow pretty good deal, so just thought I would put it out there.

Petco does that annually, $1 per gallon sale.

Although I always found it funny how they managed to make a 55 gallon tank out be $79 during that sale.

It makes more sense when Jethro Bodine explains it. He is a math whiz.

LOL, yeah I kind of though the same thing when I saw that price for the 55, still a good deal. This may or may not still be going on, but to answer your question "night blade" Yes. Hopefully they still have it going on.

$24 dollars are for the extra gallons that are included in the fantastic petsmart 55 +gallon tank......

it's an invisible 79 gallon tank really.....

or something like that.....

dave. buy me another beer.

JFYI â€"œ “Fish” Tanks

After considering the options of buying my R.O./D.I. & Salt vats of various composition, (Plastic vats, old salt buckets, Roughneck garbage cans, potable water containers, etc.), I ended up buying, drilling and plumbing 20 Gallon glass tanks & glass covers for my two vats. They're more compact, sealable, drillable, clear and a more permanent solution, IPO.

(And they Cost about the same too, in the end!)

Impersonal, Mega-stores buy tanks in huge volume. (Why wouldn't they? They are publicly traded entities, well capitalized and in it for the money. ) They buy like 10,000 tanks at a crack, and drive the cost down.

That said, my life-line of intellectual support, is ALWAYS to the LFS first, namely MemFish & Kermit’s, because of the community & customer service they afford us locally with: off-the-shelf availability and on-going expert advice, after the sale.

Are they always the “cheapest”? No. But they have a greater “value-proposition” overall, beyond mere Cost, initially.

For my money personally, I have and will continue to bring sales opportunities, as needed, to the LFS and give them first crack at competing (for larger ticket items), rather than just running to PetSmart. These are our friends and they need our $upport too.

Look, I don’t want to be a jerk and beat these guys up without cause, but I have a family to support too, so on rare occasion, I have brought Petco & PetSmart pricing to these shops, and they ended up matching the sale prices of the mega stores to keep the revenue in house. That’s fair enough for me.

We need our Local suppliers to remain healthy, so they will continue to be there for US, especially at the WTMRAC.

…in my opinion.

(Can you tell I’m a Supply-Chain guy, albeit in Aviation?)

I guess what I'm saying is: go shop your deal, and then see if the LFS wants to try and compete. If not, then run to PetSmart, but there's more that goes into to "value", than mere Price.

I dont' believe anyone comments or suggestions were made here to pull any business away from any of LFS. My support goes a long way when I look back from when I first started as I'm sure all of us can say on a weekly basis. Everyone has been more than helpful and supportive. There was never an attempt to being made to tell anyone to do anything different than what they do currently do. To stumble across a sale and want to give a heads up is actually just me "trying to be considerate and share my experiences". Heck, Petsmart is definately not the place to go to if your looking for a deal. IMO. If anyone else feels the same way and has felt offended be me sharing my experience, I will keep note for the future. Throwing accusations based on an innocent attempt to share with the group is un called for.

but there are a lot of posts here by those in the know about getting a better "deal" from an internet seller.

you gotta buy from the locals if you want the custom care that you want and deserve. i have been guilty of it as well as everyone else here. but i really realy try to buy from the locals. unless i am buying used or something that dave or richard just can't carry due to demand or price. but if it's a fish i will call or email to request the thing and get it from them. or if it's something like carbon or a test kit or somethng like that, i will get it from kermit's or memfish. or just snails or crabs.....

pay a little extra and keep these guys in business. i mean can you walk into live aquaria or fosters and smith and get the care you get from dave or rich? or the abuse? hehehehehehehehe.......

keep it local.

I did not take your post that you were trying to take any business away from the LFS you were just trying to let all know of a special you saw. I don't see any harm in that. I am sure from time to time all of us have bought something other places than Richard of Daves, but still support them for most of our items. So mrharris3 keep sharing any ideas you may come across and do not feel bad.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... Chill folks! Geez.

I totally agree with Malissa. Thanks Glitz!

Mrharris3, I absolutely was not "Throwing accusations". And if that's the way you perceived it, then I certainly apologize Sir.

I was merely advising the group, that our beloved LFS can be flexible to accommodate our specific requirements, like Cheap tanks, on an as needed basis. And, that I had personal experience doing exactly that, because I have a budget to work within too. (Not only that, but Richard drilled my tanks F.O.C., so there’s the value addedness in dealing with the locals.)

That’s it. Please do NOT read anything more into my original message, than was originally intended.

Mrharris3’s head’s up is certainly appreciated. Don’t stop making recommendations. (I was just relaying a personal experience.)

It’s all good!

Understood and I agree with all of the comments made above. I apologize if I read into the email more than I should have. All is good!
