Moved Down
Ok, so I have had one of these things from the beginning. Out of the box I needed a mainboard due to a faulty temp sensor. I wish I would have saved it because it was the non SMT version
I noticed it has an rs-232 port, just like the newer style. I have never connected to it, but it appears the firmware is easily read through a jtag. I can not mod it though, but I can pull it.
I changed out one LED strip under warranty, at the time I noticed how easy it is to change just one of the one watt leds.
I have been sourcing ultraviolet and other NM values for when they start going....hahahaha....that is later.
I'm sure ALL of you had to have a power supply fail by now, I had one go. Lucky got another from someone dumping the light in the garbage..lol
Fast forward to today, I had TWO fail simultaneously last night!!!
One of them is not completely dead, if I plug it to power and let it spin up it will work for a bit. I would guess it is just a cheap cap somewhere in there. I'm betting that is why they all fail, I am going to look for what to replace with some cold spray.
In the meantime, I went to the local cheapo computer store and bought this 500watt computer power supply for $20. hahaah!! Even has a three year warranty..
Looks like they went with a big fan and small heatsinks. I don't know a lot about switching powersupplies, but this is newer than an ATX so maybe more efficient??
Poor thing, I think i just voided the warranty. Although, I only cut the plugs and didn't take out the screw with the sticker...yet...lol
Voided now...haha
I was thinking of wrapping the mess in tape or loom and leaving it like this ..
Imagine my surprise when the fan started spinning and the bank of lights came on when I plugged it in. Sure are a lot of left over wires there.
I think I will pull the board out of the case, lose all the redundant wires and just run one nice size wire of the buses for each voltage so it looks like it was built for a purpose, and not a hacked computer power supply.
ANyone done anything with the serial port, or figure out how to fix the stock supply?
Feel free to talk about anything you know about these lights, since I don't think we will be getting anymore support. I wish I would have bought another cheap PS from the china junk store.
I am thinking of pulling the one from the PC I am typing on to get the third bank of LEDS back up....
