pfo lighting LED demo anyone

pfo lighting emailed me back saying they might be able to do a demo in CT??? I orginally enquired for a loaner to test on a real reef tank.

mimictang, I emailed the board members, someone will get back to you about trying to get a demo set up at a meeting.

What is the latest scuttlebutt regarding the use of LED's on SPS - specifically PFO's Solaris system - do they work well, or is it too early to tell?

If we get them to do a demo I think we should bring a bunch of lights to test them against with the PAR meter.

I have an overdriven T5 setup and a 2x250 hqi 2x39 t5ho combo fixture I can bring.

Hopefully we're going to have a board meeting after decembers meeting. One of the topics will be the 2008 meeting schedule. We'll have to schedule them for some time in '08.

MimicTang can you email them and find out about availability?

by that time ill have my 36 inch 6 bulb tf fixtures from fauna marin, and those suckers a brighter than a 400 watt, so well see how the LEDs hold up.

jim from aquarium conservation is getting one at some point. he was telling me he was on the waiting list to put it over one of his tanks (doesnt have the money to do the store obviously) he said because suposedly it would be as good as MH, it would save him money on his chiller and electricity and bulb replacement, and obviously if the store is called conservation he wants to save some electricity

I wouldn't count on that fixture being even close to a 400 watt. I am a big advocate of T5s, but intensity wise even an overdriven setup does not have the same peak intensity as a 250 hqi (I have tested this with the PAR meter).
