Ph balance

I'm running a 24 gallon nano cube with cabbage coral, mushrooms, two frog spawn, a tiger's eye bubble and a candy cane coral a yellow scroll and pulsing Xenia. I am having a real challenge in getting my Ph to 8.2. I've been dosing with reef buffer on a daily basis. My alkalinity is back in line after a significant water change and I have also been supplementing with magnesium. I cannot seem to get the level above 7.2 and that's causing problems with the coral. Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this or how aggressive I can be with the buffer?

I'm using the Sea Chem multi test kit. The reference sample tests fine. It's the same kit that the reef store uses and they're getting the same results (I know, no surprise). For what it's worth, the alkalinity is running at 5. Are the Ph levels tied in some way to nitrite? I've recently done a significant water change to make sure the alkalinity is under control and that brought the nitrate level down to around 5.
