PH in sump meter advice

I found the Smart SMS115 pH Meter at online retail and wholesale stores for $110 to $119. The store on Ebay is $59.75 for immediate shipping.

I have found several combo meters but none that were salinity and PH. Do you find having the ORP function helpful or essential in anyway?

"I would recommend one with a controller just in case you ever want to run a Ca reactor. For the extra 20.00 I think it is worth it"

I was thinking the same. I came across that just after I posted about the original. I am starting to feel like a spammer so I didn't want to post again until I got some feed back. Thanks Joe!

What does the EC part of the meter do? I know is measures electo-conductivity but is that part of a water quality test?

I get it now. I thought the SMS115 did PH/ TDS and EC but there are seperate units for each. I found this on the Milwaukee site about TDS and EC.

"Milwaukee Conductivity Meters, Electrical Conductivity (EC) and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) measure the ability of an
aqueous solution to carry an electric current. It is measured with a small electrical current flowing between two probes set
1cm apart. The E.C. as it is known, flows faster when a greater amount of salts are in the solution. Microprocessor
technology scales the measurement of electro conductivity into either microSiemens/cm (mS/cm) or milliSiemens/cm
(uS/cm). Using inbuilt scaling the meters can also show in aqueous solutions levels as TDS in parts per million (ppm). TDS
is the concentration of a solution as the total weight of dissolved solids. (1ppm = 1milligram/ltr). For Hydroponics, EC
meters are favored over TDS by commercial growers, simply because they give the best estimate of the strength of a
nutrient solution. TDS is a rough estimate while EC is exact. The total TDS is a mass estimate and is dependent upon the
mix of nutrients as well as the concentration while EC is only dependent upon the concentration of nutrients."

"the new reefkeeper has a ph monitor controller and is far less than the neptune 2"

I've searched Eric and I can't find the reefkeeper monitor that you refer to. Do you have a link?

I just went and looked at it and it is not less than a Neptune. You have to buy a PH probe so add what about 50-70.00 and I don't think you can run ORP on it. From what I read it will only work the 8 plugs on it. The Neptune will also control other things on the circuit like lamps and what not. It looks like it is close to the Neptune Jr in features and stuff and that runs less than the Reefkeeper @ 174.95. You just need to look at the features and see what will fit your budget ;) so this is a link for the Neptune Jr http://www.neptunesys.com/aquaControllerJr.htm

I sent an email to the Smart PH meter people and they sent me this back. I think it is a killer deal. It would be nice to have the AquaController Jr but I don't know if it is worth $100 difference. You can buy a temp monitor for $20. I don't know if I would use the CO2 controller feature.
