ph levels,

k you guys, this is kinda probably a simple question or questions.
k i have 1 150 gall reef, 55 ref., teco chiller, berlin skimmer, any ways.
Ph level in my tank according to calibrated milwaukee is 7.9. I am pretty sure i would rather have it at 8.5. So to make a long story short it does not even turn my co2 on on my schuran jetstream 1 on. Also on a jetstream is there a way i can put the milwaukee probe in the the system to get a way more accurate reading. I was told you want to have it in line on the way to the sump and i dont know how to rig it in there. I just have my probe in the refugium just because i dont know how to install it properly, someone must know about this. Anyway what is the best way to raise the ph? All of my other readings are all perfect it appears.

Bi carb soda will raise your pH and carbonate hardness, good buffer against pH dips. Dissolve very small amount in a bucket and add water topping up for evaporation or add some with water changes.

Must be a small amount or your pH will skyrocket as will the hardness of your water.

Hope this helps.

Do you use kalk? This would help a great deal with controling your PH. Is there much algae in your refug? A large amount of algae would also help fight CO2 related drops in PH.

I had a Milwuakee meter that always registered 0.2 low. So my 7.9 was really 8.1 (as measured with two different kinds of reagent tests).

What model meter is yours? I just got a sms120 and my ph stays at 8.1 no matter how much kalk I drip. Also, how old is your probe? I calabrated with 7 and 10. I can not get a specific reading with my Salifert testkit, so Its hard to tell if its off or not.

Anyone else know a method on verifing meters (w/o buying a new one)?

7.9 is not bad. The more important thing is if it is consistant., in other words, no large swings.

You asked :Also on a jetstream is there a way i can put the milwaukee probe in the the system to get a way more accurate reading.

One thing you can try is you have your effluent drip into a small container which also contains the probe. Drill a little hole at an appropriate level to allow the probe to be submerged and the effluent to drip out of the container into your sump. HTH

I am a bit confused about your question and setup.

The Shuran Jetstream 1, to my understanding, has a pH probe port into which you can put your pH probe which would then be connected to a controller. This probe would measure the effluent pH which then activates the solenoid to open (allow Co2 to bubble through) when the pH rises above a setpoint such as pH 6.5. Is this your setup? Or do you have the pH probe/controller in the tank water?

Much of your question(s) could be better answered by the guys on the Chemistry Forum. For your pH issue they will want to know other parameters such as system Alk, etc.
