pH swing

Just purchased a pinpont pH tester.... started my 90 FOWLR yesterday, added water, salt, buffer, pH went to 8.25... This morning is was around 8.17... is this a normal daily swing of pH depending on the oxygen in the air, or do you think i will need to add more of the Seachem buffer? Also, at some point when i get fish in there, can you add buffer directly to the tank, or is it safer to do a water change to get the pH up... i think i once heard you dont want to move the pH more than .5/day? ph does swing between day and night. to really know your ph, you should test the same time every day. maybe that had something to do with your different readings?
