The default value is off for a couple of reasons.
- Most pH monitors in the Aquarium trade don't have temperature compensation (compare apples to apples).
- In a typical reef tank the temperature variation is so small that the pH change is less than .01 pH units.
The only negative would be the linking of the two probes together in the event of temp probe failure. If the temp probe reads incorrectly, then the pH reading is effected also.
