ph too high

morning update:
ph seems to have come down a little. i do have a hard time reading it, though. not sure if it reads 8.8 or 8.4. it looks slightly lighter than yesterday, though.
coco worm looks great today, but zoa's still don't want to open.
to answer jdieck:
1. test kit is saltwater master by aquarium pharmaceudicals.
2. water is ro/di
3. no suppliments or additives
4. calcium, magnesium, and alk unknown. haven't been able to buy the kit yet, but will get tested at lfs today.
5. salt is oceanic
6. i didn't want to wait overnight to test a cup of water, so i aerated the tank and it seems to have worked a little, so i'm gonna run the air today while i'm at work.
so far it seems the co2 is the issue. short from getting a co2 reactor, which i can't afford right now, will i just have to aerate from time to time?

I doubt a CO2 reactor is required. As you mention PH chemical test kits are extremely difficult to read which calls for a lot of inaccuracy. I would recommend once you get the $$ to get a PH monitor. Pin Point is the one I like.
Oceanic Salt regularly has too high a calcium and low alkalinity, but let's wait and see what the tests results are.
Finally I would recommend to get the three kits (Calcium, alkalinity and Magnesium) Those are the three most critical parameters for a reef aquarium containing LPS or SPS corals. A proper balance of those can also help maintaining a stable PH.

BTW, do not even bother to test PH on RO/DI, because it does not contain any buffer, it's PH is basically irrelevant as it will quickly change as soon as alkalinity is added.

alright. got the water tested. ph is ok. they weren't even sure, but they thought it was around 8.4, maybe even a tad lower.
calcium is on the upper end of acceptable as is alk.
cocoworm looks great today, but the zoa's in question are still asleep, so hopefully whatever that is will pass.

thanks again for every one's input.

Sweet!!!

Great to hear that everything is back in order for the most part.
