Ph??????

question

question

Is alkalinty the same as salinity cause someone just told me it is. My salinity is .025? I just dont want to get confused on this.

No, alkalinity is basically the surrounding water's ability to resist any change (positive or negative) in pH. Salinity is the overall amount of dissolved salts in a particular solution (including sodium chloride--major contributor--and others to a lesser degree) 7.8 is not harmful, though do not let it get below this--as Paintbug said, check the article.

thanks

thanks

it has been at 7.8 for a while and i will try everything to change this and get it higher. Someone tried to tell me alkalinity is the same thing and he actually has a awsome reef tank.

I think you're confused, I am sure he said "alkalinity is the same thing as buffer", which is the sea water's ability to buffer the pH drop.
