So I feel a little stupid. Then phosban is just a brand name of the actual GFO? I was looking at the stuff BRS sells. Does it use the same kind of reactor?

Hi yourself Brett! I've been off in other directions for a while so my tank is doing well considering the benign neglect.
I have had issues with nuisance algae for at least a year now. Started with cyano and transitioned to dino. Then GHA took care of the dino but now I am fighting a major outbreak of GHA. Water chem looks great but all nutrients are wrapped up in the algae. It gets kind of discouraging and I didn't feel like even fooling with my tank. Andy and I are getting back into it now and I'm thinking we might need a PO4 reactor.
We've done the low feeding/water change thing and we have only 7 fish in a 180 so it's weird.
We've also had this other issue that any new fish (or even snail) we buy seem to die very quickly. We've been doing this long enough so I think we acclimate slowly enough, etc. Knock on wood, we got a diamond goby last week and it seems to be doing fine - it's got a nice clean patch of gravel so it's on the job.
Anyway that's me. I'm glad you're still around.

Glad to see you around as well. I think the PO4 reactor is a great start. I dont like to use too much at once though, a cup is plenty IMO and Id rather change it out twice as often than use twice as much. Remember that all the algae you remove manually is also removing PO4 and even if it grows back its still consuming more. Also do a seach on Kent Tech M magnesium, a lot of people swear by this stuff for Hair algae. Its not so much the mag but a bi-product from this specific brand apparently. I also love tuxedo urchins, best algae eater ive had. Hope this helps, good luck and let me know how it goes.
