Phosban reactor with Rowaphos; how much movement?

i just intalled a Phosban reactor 150 with 180ml of Rowaphos. how much movement does it need? i have the top layer moving slightly, but the larger particles at the bottom doesn't move at all. is this ok?

So I was under the impression it should be tumbling lightly unles it's some sort of bio plastic which needs a little more tumble. Today speaking to a LFS owner he told me there should be little to no tumbling as this causes crumbling of the media. First I've heard of that so I have toned mine down. Also I've had issue with clumping but we will see if maybe this helps. If not I was also told every once in a while give it a burst to free the media and then let it settle again.

Slight rumbling but not a tumble. To prevent clumping an occasion full blast through the reactor will free everything up.

I turn mine low, the top layer moves and the stuff underneath just moves slightly. I try to see if anything is floating up, if fines are, I lower the flow. From what I've read, if the flow is too high it will grind the media up.

I have mine with zero movement i find that any movement at all over long periods of time (24-7 for 4 weeks or longer ) will crush it into sand you can see for your self look at how much dust is left at the bottom when replacing your media. You can also pack it by placing filter floss in the reactor it allows you to increase the flow without the unwanted movement.

as for it clogging up or keeping it clear of crap, make sure you prefilter well before passing through you media, i use a ehiem classic 1027 canaister filter or someth'n like that, as a prefilter and a pump to feed a phos and a gac reactor.

It works well for me just my 2 cents :D
