Phosban reactor WTB

FYI, if you have clams in your tank a phosban reactor will put a quick end to them. If not then by all means go for it, but it will kill a clam pretty quick if you do have one.

I'd be interested in reading an article that supports that statement.

I've been keeping clams in my aquarium with a Phosban Reactor for quite some time now. I know many others who have done the same for a much larger amount of time.

I don't have an article for you, but i know many people that have added a reactor and lost thier clams within a few days after, when they were perfectly healthy before.

Did you have your clams before adding the reactor or add it after? I would be interested to find out what the deal is too. For some more info, you could PM Pwhitby, he is the president of the Central Oklahoma Reef aquarium Society. He may be able to shed some more light on it for you. He is also a micro biologist, and has won the TOTM before.

Yea, PFO is expensive.

I had my reactor on before I got my clam. However, I also took it off for a few weeks because i was to lazy to put it back on. (I top off with tap water) and put it back in a week ago and everything's still good.

I have gone back and read some of the threads, and it seems to be that most cases are smaller tanks where the reactor dropped the phos levels very rapidly. I really can't say for sure, but i do know that there have been cases where adding a phosban reactor has suddenly killed clams that have been in a system and healthy for some time. Why that is, i can't say for sure. Not that i plan to add one, but i also would like to know what the cause is.

If you think this hobby kills your cash, you should take up drag racing, or get a motorcycle lol.

I have a 74 Nova in my garage that i have at least $40,000 in, and it costs $250 to take it to the track if nothing breaks while you're there. It gets almost 1 mile per gallon, so it costs $40 or more just to take it out and drive around for a few minutes. I also just bought a brand new motorcycle this weekend, and already have almost $2000 in accessories added to it and don't even have 100 miles on it yet lol.

I have read that too.... that dropping po4 levels rapidly will freak out sps and other creatures.
Coincidentally I have been wanting a motorcycle for some time (nice old school bobber or a lower end harley) I just have to finish up with school and get all my classes and whatnot paid for before that can happen

I'm not a Harley guy myself. The ones i would ride cost $20,000, and i ain't gonna be caught dead on a sportster lol. I bought a new Suzuki Boulevard C50 and added bag, a windshield, Vance & Hines headers, and 16" ape hangers. I only spent $8500 out the door including tag, title and tax, with 0 down and 2.9% financing. The cheapest Harley you will find without getting a sportster will set you back at least $13,000 if you get a used one with 25,000 miles on it and no upgrades and will stay broke down all the time.

I think that may be the issue. It's not the phosban reactor it's self, but the rapid decrease in phophates that shocks the clams and i guess some sps too maybe. A couple of good size clams will control all the phosphates anyway. I have never had any issues with p04 at all, but i always keep one or two large clams in my tanks.

Yeah i went and looked at harleys...pretty pricey. I have seen a lot of guys who have taken suzukis and hondas and chopped them up into some pretty sweet bobbers. Seems to be fairly cheap to do too......

I'll be posting a picture of mine when i get it out of the shop next wednesday with the ape hangers on it. It's a limited edition, silver with blue and grey flame paint and mag wheels. Pretty sweet bike i think. The flames are actually painted and not stickers.

Here it is now without the windshield and ape hangers installed. It has also been lowered 1 1/2 inches in the rear since thes pics.

Y ou can't touch that with a Harley for $8500, and that price includes the shield and the ape hangers that aren't on it yet.

I've got one or two collecting dust... came with my current setup, but didn't add them. Could probably be convinced to let one go.
