Phosban Reactor?

Hello,

I have 130 gal tank with a 30 gal sump. I would like to employ a Phosban reactor. I had a couple questions though.

Is the Two little fishes the best reactor? If not what is your suggestion? Will one be enough for my tank? What should I fill it with? I would like to use carbon as well so should I use something like Chemipure elite, or should I get two reactors and put carbon in one and phosban in the other, or is there some other product I should use? What pump would you suggest for both one and two reactors? I assume they can run off of one pump.

I have a TLF reactor on my 135 running GFO media (PhosBan). If I were to run carbon, I would add another. As for pumps, I have a MJ400 connected to the reactor.

I like the TLF reactor. It does the job and is affordable. I have one on my 120g with carbon in it. I have no need to run phosban. If you do then you may think of getting two reactors; one for carbon and the other for phosban.

I have one in the sump for my 125 and it works well. I wouldn't mix the Phosphate remover and carbon because Chemi will last longer and carbon won't last as long. I lay a bag of carbon across the flow in front of sponge filter. I also run ChemiElite on a hob filter. Sump is full of rubble and Skimmer pump.

Is carbon and phosban the best option? Is there anything better then this combo? What about the multipurpose media out there?

Depends on what you are trying to do. GFO will help control phosphates, carbon will, in the end, help clean up the water a bit. It should make the water a little clearer by removing some of the other organics floating around. Think of carbon as a Britta filter. Post some specifics about your tank. Do you have phosphate in your water, are you using RO/DI water, live rock/sand weight, etc. The more information, the better.

TLF makes great products. They can be a bit pricier but are designed and teted by scientist-bobbyists, so there's never need to question their practicality or quality.

I run two, one with carbon, other with PhosBan and I'm very pleased with the results. They run off a MJ600 but even that's too much. I have to crank back the flow a lot.

Depends on how much phosphate (P04) you have in the tank. Lightly saturated, a month or more. Heavy saturation, a few weeks at best.

I run phosban in one reactor for two months. In the other reactor I run carbon for 2-3 weeks.
Because of that it is better to run them in in separate reactors

www.mops.ca is running a special the reactor plus phosban for 50 dollars--good deal
to get the US web site go to the cdn site and there is a link there for it

i just picked up 2 TLF media reactors and was told if you have sps like i do, you should be very carefull of coral acclimating to lower phosphate levels. you have to add only a little bit every week and cut back your light to be certain it wont hurt anything. is this true or can i just dump in all the phosban at once?

I was waiting for capn_hylinur to bring out the picture. I knew he had one but could not remember his full screen name.

for the xp go to marine depot and read the testamonials for it. with my setup i cant take that risk so i went for the TLF again. one is gfo the other is carbon. driven by mj900s and flow adjusted with the valve that comes with the unit. no runs drips errors. i really wish i could have gone with the xp though for size.

LoL---and everytime I post it I get a mail box full of hate mail:lol:

I have to admit I like the size of the xp plus

it does question however if more is better-----I am not to sure on this one:confused:
eg in the case of the carbon your throwing alot more of it out in 2-3 weeks then before

I suppose if you have a phosphate problem then more phosban might work more effectively ---but it cost more then the reactor to fill it each time---LOL
