Phosban vs cheato

I'm intrigued, which algae scrubber did you go with?
I went with the rain2 and I got the 4 light fixture which put it at $400. They have less lights but I figured may as well het all four so I have them if I need it. From what I've seen a lot of it has to do with photo period, in going to start with running them 16 hours and move that down if needed.

This thread and the limited research it triggered might have me rethink my carbon/gfo reactor and instead a algae reactor for my nano.

I have nothing against algae scrubbers. I have considered one in my system. My understanding (someone please correct me if I am wrong) is that skimming removes a wider variety of dissolved organics than algae does. I would consider using both.
Keep us posted on how the algae scrubber works for you. I have heard they are much more efficient than chaeto which is what I am using now.

100% what i was going to reply with. Yes algae uses phosphate and nitrates, however skimmers pull out organic material BEFORE it becomes nitrates. Meaning less stress overall on the system.

If you've seen a skimmer, you know what we are talking about. I wouldn't want to pour that skimmate back into the system, which is exactly that when running skimmerless.

no doubt you can have a successful tank. Over the years iv learnt there are ways to a successful tank with LESS work :)

Looking forward to see some postings about it. I would like a scrubber soon

Yeah I've kept salt for 12 plus years and every system I've set up has had a skimmer ran with gfo and carbon. I'm trying to get away from that now and run this scrubber along with a skimmer.

Any updates?
Yes actually I continue to see great algae growth and clean weekly to bi weekly. One concern is that it's too efficient for my bio load. I have a few other issues I was dealing with before I can make an educated decision on that. My temps were at 70 to 74 due to a heater issue. I also topped off with saltwater by accident when I was re doing my ATO. Now I'm back to normal and corals are looking better. With that said I will monitor close to see if it the scrubber or my human error.
