Phosban

How long does the 150g of Phosban usually last? I haven't tested my phosphate levels yet, but I imagine they are above normal.

I hope I don't have to replace $13 media every 2 weeks? Maybe a month or two?

According to the Marine Depot...

"150 grams will treat up to a 150 gallon tank for several months (depending on the phosphate level). "

Which means if you are knee deep in phosphate it will last a short time, and if you have just a small amount of phosphate it will last months. :D

Doh! Probably should have read the item.

Thats good to hear. I bought lots of goodies tonight. Phosban reactor, Phosban, a Mini-jet 606 to power it, and a Salifert Phosphate test kit. Hopefully my SPS will grow better.

I would love to hear the results. I have been thinking about getting one myself, but haven't got around to scrounging up the cashola. Good luck! :D

Slow as in use much less phosban than recommended. I would use around 1/5 of the rcommended amount to start and watch your ALK very closely. I ended up needing about 2 tsp of baking soda every day for a week to maintain the ALK in my 75 that was very stable before adding the Phosban.

Have you already setup your phosban reactor or did you just order it?

I ordered it last night.

I bought a Mini-jet 606 which does like 13, 76, or 113 GPH. I'll probably use 113 when I run carbon and 76 on Phosban.

I would also cut the flow back as well I use a mag 2 for mine and have the valve at less than half on a 200 gal tank.

I have 2 Phosban reactors that'll be here Friday. They will be powered by a Eheim 1250 but it'll be split to my UV and to 2 Phosban reactors, one running rowa and one running carbon. Think that should work?

just make sure you keep proper flow to the reactors. it's powerful stuff the way of how it can effect your tank.

80 GPH is the suggested flow.

I would build up to 80 gph not start out there. and that is why I have mine restricted quite a bit, since the mag is overrated, but it is what I had on hand

Well, I must have typed my credit card in wrong cause it didn't go through.

This means I'll have to wait until probably next Wednesday!! Oh well.

Got my Phosban reactor today. I hooked it up, put about 40g of Phosban in it , and ran about a gallon through it. So far so good, nothing is dead yet :P

My phosphate ended up being like .1-.25. I know what people mean when they say these tests aren't easy to read. Oh well, I guess I can run the Phosban reactor anyways, won't hurt anything, right?

I have a phosreactor and like much of you have said it did deplete my alk fast, but I adjusted it safely. It did though get rid of the rest of my phosphate that wasn't getting lower until the addition.
