phosguard

Ok, here is my problem/question. I was contemplating the use of an RO/DI machine for my reef. I thought I was in good shape as I already had the 4 stage unit. However, now that I look at it and start reading about it, it seems as if the costs can accumulate quickly in terms of media. The membrane filters are pricey, the best I have found is around 35 dollars. Add in the other 3 chambers and you are starting to see what I am getting at. I have never used any RO water in my aquariums; Now before you start screaming about how can you do this, be aware that I have had my current reef in operation, although moved to a larger tank at 2 years, with the non-ro water. My SPS are growing as are all my other corals and livestock.
Now the question part. If I were to keep using phosguard, as I do now in a reactor, and chemi-pure as an upgraded carbon source; would I be in essence removing some of the things that I would be using the RO unit for?

Just wanted to include a pic to show what I am keeping and how it looks under current water conditions.

Wouldn't chemi-pure, a carbon based product, remove copper?

I don't know, but removing some and removing enough may be different. Carbon may remove some copper when bound to organics, but I would not expect it to convert 1 ppm copper in tap water into suitable water for a reef.
