Hi guys iam not new in the hobbie but quick question for you

I fill up a new tank 250gallons

I still have my old 150 gallons running

I didnt want to use the water from my old tank because its about 25 ppm of nitrate and some phosphate with algea problem

So i decide to start fresh

But i just did all my test and iam suprise to see my resultat

Phostphate hanna: 0.10 redsea 0,08
Nitrate redsea 2,5-3 ppm
Phosphorus hanna 0pp

Why do I have po4 and nitrate

Hi use a rodi to fill up the tank with a new membrane and resin
Tds show 0ppm

I use instant ocean salt just to start the system

Nothing is in the aquarium except aragonite sand and i wash it

Thanks guys

The new sand may have it, and or rock, where did that all come from?

I had the same thing, never suspected it, but mine was .35, not too bad. Got a reactor and its all good.

is it ammonia or nitrate that can cause phosphate to read wrong on some kits? or is this all in my head.

I would bet if you're reading 0 on the phosphorous meter and .10 on the phosphate meter, it's a fluke reading.

Iirc the range for mistake on those meters (at least the phosphate) is .04? Can't recall the phosphorous... even though I use it all the time lol..

If there is some phosphate in the water, the phosphorous meter should detect it better than the phosphate. (it has a smaller margin of error)

Live rock, dry rock and sand all come in with phosphate. Getting rid of it may take a while. A GFO reactor can do it.
