phosphate media help.

Hi, does anyone know if the phosphate media has to dance a little bit for it to work? I have filled my too much and my powerhead is not strong enough to make the media boiling. Do I have to take out a little or it is still okie? thanks

ive been told it has to slowly roll and when i run rowophos i run about a cup. filling a reactor could be bad, could be. someone with more experince im sure will chime in.

Depends on the media but I know Rowophos is designed to be in a fluidized reactor therefore it should boil (a little).

all you want to see is a subtle "boiling" effect distributed over the surface of the media. The media should not be getting tossed up into the water column or look like bubbles in a protein skimmer.

does anyone notice that the phosban changes color from the rusty brown to almost purple? It's lightened a bit. Does anyone else have this problem?

From what I understand it's prolly precip because of the increase in Ph around the media.

Besides the bigger pump, get an inline valve to regulate the water , you will need it.

It will still work, just not as efficiently. The medis is "fluidized" to prevent detritus buildup and "chaneling" of the media, where water bypasses some of the media and it's not being utilized to it's fullest.

I'm pretty sure that Phosban and PhosLock are designed to also work in the media bag provided, albeit not very well. Your reactor is going to be more efficient than using the media bag whether you can see the "boil" or not.
