phosphate reactor?

my phosphate reactor pump broke and was not working and i didnt realize that. i went to go and change it and it was all black and smelled so bad. can i just rise it out and use it again or is there some thing i should clean it with before i use it?

That smell is hydrogen sulfide (deadly poison to your tank) rinse it till it no longer smells then you are good to go

I'd rinse it first with vinegar and then with water
