Phosphate removers

Ok, i ordered some phosPure phosphate remover from Dr. Fosters, to clean up any phosphates in my system before adding the SPS frags i purchased from Paul W. I thought i had done my research before hand, but Paul told me that this is not good for SPS. From what i had found, i thought i needed a granulated ferric hydroxide filter media.

If not this, then what if anything can be used with SPS corals in the tank for phophate removal?

Rowa is best....from what I hear.

Are you sure you have a phosphate problem Dugg ? I would get a kit and test.

Paul.

dugg,

I've used Salifert Phosphate Eliminator off and on for awhile. I've only seen a slight change. When I tried PhosGuard I noticed a difference almost immediately. Not a huge difference, but some none the less. I have not noticed any ill effects on sps with either product.

No i haven't tested for phosphates, i just figured that since the caulerpa had crashed as it did, that it had dumped a ton of stuff into the water. I also recently had a small patch of algae pop up in the display, and i never get algae in my display. My nitrates stay less then 10 ppm, so with my macro growing like a weed and almost no NO3, that would leave phosphates as the culprit. I did use a lot of crushed oyster shell in making the tank.

I just wanted to be sure and have everything nice and clean for the new babies lol. :)
