I got my TBS rock and sand last September. During cycling I had much rot and bacterial growth, extremely high ammonia (40+ ppm), and much phosphate for a couple of weeks.
All is excellent in my tank now with no parameter issues, except I am still measuring a trace of phosphate, just above non-detect with a colorimetric test, but definitely measureable. I've got tons of live rock, and a fully grown refugium, and so the phosphate should be 0. If it's measurable, there's probably more than a trace, but the plants are consuming most of it.
One issue I do have with my tank, is that in the display tank, I am still getting prolific green hair algae growth, mostly on the rocks. Which I am thinking is because of the phosphate. But there should be no phosphate. Could it be from what was in the TBS rock that initially caused high phosphate, and is still present?
Have any of you experienced this, and shall I try something like Phosban?
