Photo Critique Wanted!!

I recently became the proud owner of a Nikon D40. I'm pretty easy to please, and I have to say I am pretty happy overall with my new toy! However, I am not the best photographer. So, I have been taking some basic classes that's offered by Wolfe Camera (where the camera was purchased), in order for me to get a basic understanding of all the settings in my camera.

As a result, I have been playing with my new camera and got to actually toying with the settings on it. None of these photos have been touched up at all. I played with various ISO's from 200-600 on these, along with different shutter speeds. Some of them were taken with the flash turned on and without the flash.

Please be brutal in the feedback, as I am looking to improve my photography skills.

You're getting the basic idea.

Some are overexposed, some under. All need white balancing.

Shoot in RAW mode and set the white balance during post processing. Shoot straight through the glass. Avoid center composition. Don't be afraid to get closer if you're camera will focus closer.

Unusually composed parts of a subject are often more interesting than center composed full subject shots.
