You can do those same adjustments in LR...

From what I understand, Aperture is just LightRoom that is integrated more for Apple users, but the actual image editing part is very similar...

While Lightroom has many of the same basic features Aperture has, the filing and organizational tools in Aperture are much better. Also in Aperture you have the ability to use a brush for every effect rather than just a few. You can also stack multiple effects for some more advanced editing.

I have too many devices with Tapatalk!

I'm sorry but I completely disagree with this. In LightRoom I can brush on any effect I want, I can do multiple effects that compliment each other to create additional effects, and the organization aspect of LightRoom is simply the best I have ever used.

Are there any other image editing software out there for windows that are better then lightroom?

Lightroom is as good as it gets for Windows

Best you have ever used is quite a qualifier.
Lightroom has the ability to brush a lot of effects, but not all. Also you cant stack effects. The workaround for adding heavy definition is kludgy at best.

Also the library in Aperture far and away the better system for organizing and backing up or archiving images. Lightroom doesn't even have a comparable feature.
But what do i know, im just a professional photographer who uses all three programs.

You must be missing the fact that the OP has Windows... Aperture shouldn't even be in this conversation.

What works best for a professional photographer probably isn't going to work best for amateur or freelance photographers. I'm willing to bet that the OP has no idea what 75%+ of the features do so adding more features isn't going to help, it will just confuse the hell out of him.

Didn't miss anything. Just responding to some lack of info regarding Aperture since it was mentioned. Even LR is probably overkill. There are some decent raw converters available for less than the cost of LR with what an amateur would need.

I loved the work flow in Aperture. What I didn't like is the image quality of the output. Capture One is the opposite, the output is great but the workflow sucks.

Lightroom is a great alternative, especially those who are just starting to work with RAW.

A footnote to that. On a workshop, we had a guy who was an Apple VP (worked with education). He could use any Apple software available for almost no cost.

He used Lightroom. ;)

The latest version of capture one is actually really nice. They have made a lot of changes to both the workflow and the tool set. The great thing is you can try it for free to see if it suits you.

Its all personal preference. Aperture had a better book function, Capture One does a better job when i shoot medium format and i use LR for a specific client who prefers to share libraries.

Yea Ive never used lightroom. Went from CS6 to Aperture as my sister is a prof. photographer for high dollar weddings and turned me onto the program. I personally think its just ridiculously easy to use. You get fantastic adjustments with VERY little effort and the pics just seem to come out true to colors, especially underwater. I also LOVE the libraries. I mean hell I took 1,055 photos yesterday at Carnival, imported them all and edited and kept about 100, catalogued them for upload in a couple hours. BOOM. lol. Would have taken me WEEKS in PS and days to simply go through them. Does Lightroom have actions like PS? I would def. get those going if it does, their a time saver.

Anim8 - what do you mean it puts out better quality that aperture? Truer to color or what? I may look into caption one too - unless its PC only...

dviper150 Thanks for the compliment on my website... I am still a total Newb and learn more every day. Luckily I can go get in the Caribbean whenever I have a hankering for some UW shots. Im using a simple set up too with a Canon s100, UW Canon housing and a single strobe and all of the shots on the site are from free diving, which is a challenge in itself lol.

Lightroom doesn't have "Actions" per se, but it has, what they call, "Presets". They aren't the exact same thing but can achieve the same lightning fast editing and organizing that actions do. I can import all my tank photos (today I edited/sorted 500 photos in about 20 minutes) and without even clicking anything I can have them all tagged, labeled, sorted, and edited (rarely do I use presets this extensively), and all I have to do is click export.

Since I don't only do aquarium photography I keep a few presets handy; 1 for aquariums, 1 for HDR, and 1 for landscape, 1 for timelapse, etc. I also have some others that I use if I am shooting a sporting event or family event.
