Photo posting question

Scenario: I take a cool picture of something in my tank, such as feeding tentacles on the coral.
Then I take the pic, shrink it to the required size limit to upload to my gallery, post it in a forum.
By the time I've done all of this the photo is no longer very cool, all the macro detail is gone, almost like a thumbnail that you can't click on. How do you guys have these big pics to post?
I use a digital camera ( nothing fancy, just a canon power shot A520). Plug it in to my MAC, upload to iphoto & shrink using the wishing well. Is there a better way?How are you guys reducing to 50K but keeping your size and detail? Any ideas or thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Go to photobucket.com and start an account. You can upload your photos to there and keep them at a high resolution and quality, then just copy the photobucket link of the photo and put it here.

Then when other people read the thread, it shows them the image that you have stored on photobucket.
