Photographers?

tank o tang

Thread Lurker
Do we have any in the group? I can't take a pic to save my life not to mention I have a pos camera, and wondering if anyone would like take some pics for me in the future.
Thanks

I've absolutely got training and experience in photograpy. Unfortunately that's years ago and have a POS camera these days too. (Actually good cameras aren't that expensive, but good lenses remain expensive, and THAT is the major impediment to taking good tank pics.)

So, I can't really help unless someone steps up with a nice camera/lens combo, with no time or ability to use it, in which case I'm your man! :)

Steve, from my experience the major impediment is light. Even a crappy digital camera can take wonderful pics if you have enough light.

I've tinkered with the idea of getting a portrait light for this single purpose.

The lenses on the smaller crappy cams can actually be of great benefit. Since the lens is so small, the depth of field can be stretched, perceptually, to infinity. Really helps out with close-ups and macros.

Hmmm, portrait light or bubble king...

I've got to agree there. My problem is that I strongly prefer pic's in the in situ lighting - the light the tank is normally under - no flash, no extra setup. And then light does often become the limiting factor. Goodness knows I've taken some quite accepable pics with a little digital point-n-shoot. But in every case it was when the tank and subject were under a LOT of light.

I find my pictures are best when I am not using a flash for salt water tanks. But with flash in my fresh water tanks.

I find that turning off the flash and putting on only your daylight lights (or really white looking lights) bring out the colors the best.

I have a decent camera with tripod, etc (not the little one I brought to the first few meetings). Invite me over and we'll get some shots. I didn't get to go to last week's meeting, how did that go?

next month i'm getting a canon 50D and a canon 100mm macro lens with it. i'd be glad to come by and take some pics. i can take HD vids too if you like. =]
