Photoperiod for clams

I have a Crocea (2 years) and a Squamosa (1 week) :). I have recently come to the conclusion that I have too much light for my size tank. I am wondering as I make bulb intensity and photoperiod ajustments what you guys do? what bulbs for how many hours. I have noticed that if I cut the intensity by puting a mesh screen under my 250 watt XM 10k's that my Crocea expands its mantle nicely. With the full intensity of these bulbs after an hour or two its mantle is curved over the shell, as if it does'nt want too much light to hit it.

Your lighting is probably fine- croceas will extend more to gather more light, retracting a bit when the lighting intensity is higher. If your clams are responsive and show no other signs of ill health, I'd keep the light as is.

I doubt your Croceas have too much light :D

16" deep- 1000watts of MH and 280 watts of actinic:(

I do think the clams can "handle" the light, but that does'nt mean that they look their best. I've had my Crocea for about 2 years, and it is healthy, but its balancing the light for the clams and the corals that is what I find tuff. What a Crocea can take may bleach out most corals.

1000 watts....running your own little solar system there aren't we? no wonder our ice caps are melting :) over a 125 gallons i would think around 600 watts would be enough~

BTW, I'm not mental, I don't use all 4 bulbs at the same time. I use mostly 2x20k and 2x10k for a few hrs in the middle of the photoperiod. Only two bulbs on at once. Just the same, here in Quebec there is one thing thats cheap.... electricty I pay $120 per month which inludes heating in the winter and AC in the summer, plus everything else in my home is electric. No gas. Water is cheap here too, actually its free. :)

250's over a 125g is not too much for croceas......your 125g is 16" tall, thats the strangest, is it custom?
No its bad luck, the owner of my apt. happened to visit as I was transfering my 65 to my 125, and he thought it was too big. He said it would wreck the floor (he may be right). So I am only allowed to fill it 16" deep  It makes my 125 actually 90 gallons. I think that I will end up filling it to 18" just the same. But not yet.
Ok mbbuna, its empty :)
