photos from my LFS

There's a steep learning curve to shooting reef tanks!! Shooting through acrylic, glass, under LED's, bubbly water -- not to mention how quick they are! Now I'm even more impressed with lots of the images I've seen here :)

Anyway, I figured I would share some of my first attempt at the LFS-- we're currently building our first tank so hopefully I'll have my own critters to practice on soon. These were taken with my Sony a99 and 100mm macro, handheld, and under whatever light there was. My LFS is awesome enough that they turned the lights up for me at one point and the powerheads off in one of the coral tanks... and they probably wouldn't mind if I set up camp with a tripod and speedlight next time ;)

nice, some of them could be a little lighter, but nicely done

lfs are nice to shoot at if they are open to it because of the changing variety.

Thanks! The changing variety is definitely a plus -- and my LFS (at least my favorite one) was happy to have me take photos there. Of course I shared with them after.

And I agree that a few of them could be lighter -- I hate pushing my ISO past 3200, and wasn't quite sure how far I could push my aperture and SS to get things in focus and not blurry. There are a few where I'm not even sure if the slight fuzziness is from noise or a tiny bit motion blur... but I'm looking forward to practicing more and also figuring out how to get some good light in the tanks!

i understand
try doing it in postwork. photoshop them
if you don't have photoshop, picasa is free, flickr has a think where you can adjust, and photobucket, google chrome has some editiing stuff too
