Photoshop Question?

Heres a pic I took a week back and made a new layer converted it to b and w and erased around the eye. I wanted to do the same concept with a photo of my nephew eating cake on his bday and was wondering if there is an easier way. It just seems kinda hard using the eraser. any help appreciated. thanks

Why not select only what you want to convert to Black and white and then convert it to black and white. You could also apply some feather to your selecetion to avoid having a sharp transition from B&W to colour.

Depends what the background is. If the background is a single color or tone then you can use SELECT>COLOR then use the eye dropper to pick out all the tones close to that color. Use the slider to change the sensitivity of the selection.

You can combine this method with the lassoo tool to or other selection tool to get exactly what you need.

There are lots of way to do this. The decision will really come down to that particular image though. You can use channels to make selections and so on. Can you post the image?

A quick and simple way would be to just make a copy of the image layer (in the layer pallet just drag it down to the new layer icon), convert the bottom layer to B&W. Then do a quick mask on the top layer and just paint away (with the brush color set to black). That will expose the B&W layer underneath. If you expose a part you didn't want exposed just switch the color to white and paint again and that will "restore it" back.
