I will be doing raw editing with photoshop and need to know which version I need. I only plan to use it for raw, so don't need a real expensive version.

Thanks

Photoshop Elements is the least expensive version and will edit raw files. Generally speaking, cameras which can shoot raw come with software that will edit raw files too, fyi.

Buy Adobe Lightroom and do your RAW conversion there. Buy Elements if you find you still need a pixel editor.

I think I've decided on Lightroom after running the trial, on top of that my brother's wife is getting it for me with her edu discount

For basic editing, I do really like Lightroom (I use both Photoshop and Lightroom). Additionally (well, primarily really), Lightroom is a wonderful photograph organizer/database. It takes some getting used to, however, to use it as it was designed and really exploit its capabilities. The biggest thing you'll want to do is avoid using anything other than Lightroom to move pictures, create new picture folders, etc. Lightroom uses its own file organization (i.e. the Lightroom catalog), so if you start moving things around outside Lightroom, Lightroom won't realize what you've done, and it won't know where to look for the moved files without some action on your part.
