PHs for water circulation?

So far I have lost a sea hare and a turbo snail to a PH - and I really liked my sea hare. How can I avoid this happening?

What type of powerheads? Ecotech makes foam covers for their vortech powerheads.

These are all types from over the past 15 years - they have sleeve type filters that attach to intake to keep fish from being sucked up, but they provide no protection for snails , sea hares, etc.

Can you put some type of pantyhose material over them?

Or the 1/4" mesh, we use for screen tops.
