Phyto?

Love The Fish
Anyone in town played around with phyto cultures? If so im interested in what you used to start your culture. Anyone have any locally or did you have to order it? Where is a good place to order from? I checked out Reed mariculture, but $70 bucks just to get started is a little steep. Any help is appreciated.

Thats what I wanted. Did you use an fertilizer like the f/2 in your cultures? Thanks for the link, I appreciate it.

Yeah. I use the two part fertilizer -- I have 99% of it left and don't think I'll be using it again. I'd be willing to part with it if you were interested!

Sure, let me know what you want for it. I take it the clowns never started breeding for you again.

They did. I'm just too lazy to get back into taking care of them!! :)

I have a gallon jug of each of the two-part fertilizer stuff (Pro-Line brand). How about $20 for both of them?

PM me your info and I will call you sometime this week. Let me know what days/times are normally good for you.
thanks again

I wish I could tell you something exciting but im gonna have to disappoint you. I'm just gonna try to culture some copepods to replenish my tank after killing em all off with interceptor. I probably dont need to go this far to do so but I would also like to raise some fish in the future and I thought it would be good practice incase my clowns ever decide to cooperate with my plans. My wife doesn't know im gonna have two liter bottles full of green stuff all over the place yet so can I keep em at your house.:lmao:

I will post my experiences as always. I have to wait till I get back from my vacation at the end of the month before I can start it. Once I get it going you can have some to start your own culture with if your interested.

I never really figured out how to post links but if you go to the fish breeding forum there is some great articles about Pyto, rots, Baby brine, etc..... right at the top of the page. I highly recommend them.

btw you and Biffer, I want to hear all about it.

Phyto is super easy to do yourself. All you need is a starting culture, that two-part fertilizer solution we were discussing, some empty soda bottles, an air pump with some tubing, and a light. It's algae. It grows easily as long as it has fuel and light. If you want details, feel free to PM me. At my highest levels of production, I was running 12 soda bottles at a time.

Olin was going to start supplying a reef stew, if you get this going you could probably pick up some pocket change selling a live pod stew. I would love a weekly feeding of phyto/pod mix. My Fathead would say thank you he eats anything now but would love a stew.

finally got it going. 3 days, the tank is copepods. Not sure how this is going to work out but it should at least drive my wife nuts. :spin2:
Anyone know if thats how it should look at this point?

well, if your wife is anything like mine it looks fine to me. it should drive her just nuts enough not to throw you out of the house, but how does it smell?....lol

I dont know I didn't smell it. She's always mad at me for all the fish stuff laying around the house. That picture is in the laundry room.
