Pic of a featherduster - Help a newbie photographer

Hey everyone,
I just got a Canon Digital Rebel and have been playing around with it a bit. I took a picture of this featherdust in my Nano tank. I only have the kit lens for the camera, so it's not the best for macro shots, but I think this one came out pretty well. I'd love to hear some tips of people with this cam or any other dSLR.

I like the contrast. Part of the feathers look overexposed, yet the shadows are a deep dark black. Pretty good shot IMO.
