Just thought i'd share, I know, you've seen them all before.

Setup:

12g nanocube with 70w 14k metal halide, surface skimmer, mj600 & mj900 to two returns.

I had to move every frag in the tank to the floor, she didn't like the (much lower) spot i'd picked out for her and decided to roam the entire tank before settling in a spot that gets flow from both returns. You can see the direct return a little below and to the left, and the variable flow from the upper right.

Anyhow, i've remounted all of the frags. This picture is from yesterday when they were all still on the floor. I hope the anemone doesn't move, she seems pretty happy with her spot and has eaten and expelled wastes since being introduced on Saturday. Pretty large for this tank. I am planning another system, a 54g Oceanic Corner Bowfront. I may leave this tank running and make it the anemone/ coral quarantine tank. No set plans yet, and it'll be a while 'til the new system is setup (nothing has been purchased yet, all in planning stages.)

Forgot to mention, the ocellaris is not interested at all. The fire shrimp has been interested and has poked the anemone with curiosity a couple of times. haha.

Just wanted to share,
Angela

edited again because i'm having some spelin truble

Thanks Rock! It's actually even bigger than in that pic. Man, I might have to re-mount one of the corals, the anem when fully opened is about 2" from it.

z32tt, no, the clown has no interest even at night. He "sleeps" in the corner at the back right of the aquarium.

I just fed the rose a silverside, it is still eating it. My fire shrimp is not having this. He has decided that the anemone is not that tough and even though the anem was half closed and the silverside mostly in its mouth the fire shrimp was determined to pick this out. Even though I just fed the shrimp, he consumed his food and went back for more.

I think i'm going to have to get rid of the fire shrimp:( I really love him, too and he is totally coral safe... but I guess that is because the coral doesn't get fed large pieces of fish *sigh*.

You don't have to get rid of the shrimp, I believe it was your other thread I replied too -- Just give the shrimp a bigger piece of the silverside -- it always keeps mine occupied. Plus once the anemone is more settled, it should be able to "eat" it quicker. My RBTAs (and BTAs for that matter) can pull in a good size silverside withing seconds.

HTH.

Nice looking RBTA, might want to wait a bit longer before remounting those frags, just in case it does move.

Hi Todd,

Well, giving the shrimp an even larger fish is not an option. I want to keep feeding in an optimal range in this tank, which is, as we're all aware, not as flexible as with a 75g reef or even a 30g. The effective volume of this tank total is probably in the realm of 9.5 to 10g of water.

I will try to trade the shrimp or sell him to someone with a good home. If I cannot do that I will feed the anemone much smaller pieces of food and hope that the clown will take to it and protect it from the shrimp.

I really love the shrimp, I hate to give him up:( I have posted ads for trade, so we'll see.

oh, and the clown seems to be swimming near to the anemone. It hasn't gone in yet, but i'm hopeful;)

Thanks,
angela

That is a good point, about the piece being too large, and water quality. The piece I give my shrimp is only about 3/4 of an inch (if that).

It is your call, but I would hold out a week or two, just to see what happens.

Swimming near it is a good sign. I just picked up a piar of pink skunks, took them a couple of days to find the BTA, now if they would only find my Haddoni (carpet) ;)

Good luck.

they cant really dive in.. without getting stung. My maroon was already a host to the bta, but i had to qt the maroon for 6 weeks

when I put the fish back in the tank he had to acclimate herself to it.. biuld up her slime coat. so when they start lightly touching it, then backing off and keep doing it, there gonna be all over it asap.

My fish couldent take being away from it and dove in to soon. she had little white marks all over her from it. but they were gone by morning

Well, I haven't seen him actually touch the anemone. I was just wondering if they seem to swim near it for a while before deciding to touch it. I haven't seen any contact yet, but the clown is definitely swimming near to it. He didn't uesd to have a spot to swim, but now he seems to like it right there near the anemone, but won't touch it.

I hope your maroon gets better soon:)

My skunks swam near them ( I have two BTAs in that tank) for the first two days (3 days for the "shy" one) but once they went in it, they were in it. Now they will barely leave it, only to eat.

Ok, tomorrow will be day 5, so we're past day 3... But, I'm still hopeful:)

Thanks, akbuuur. It's like having a child, i'm flattered by the compliment, lol!
